Our Story

Caught The Fire Bug was started in the summer of 2023 as a wildfire news service dedicated to reporting on fires across the US and beyond. With timely news coverage, photos, and videos shared on Facebook and Instagram, our mission is to tell wildfire stories, spread awareness, and educate the public about the wildfires that threaten our landscapes.

The creator of CTFB first stepped onto the fire line in the summer of 2008, joining a hand crew in Southern Oregon for two seasons. During those first two seasons, the work was exhausting, dangerous, and addictive.

In 2010, a new chapter began with a move to Eastern Washington, where 14 seasons were served on Type 4 and Type 5 engine crews, facing new challenges but maintaining the same relentless drive. Firefighting became more than a job—it was a way of life.

But after multiple injuries took their toll, continuing on the front lines was no longer an option. Even then, walking away from fire service entirely was never in the cards. The wildfire community was family, and the desire to stay connected remained strong. That drive to support and uplift fellow firefighters led to CTFB’s mission to tell wildfire-related stories, spread awareness, and honor the people who risk everything to battle the flames.

As for the name of our organization? It wasn’t just a catchy phrase—it was a reality. Firefighting wasn’t just a job. It became an obsession, a calling. The fire bug was caught, and now, through CTFB, that same passion fuels a mission to inform, support, and connect the wildfire community.
